What is the aim of the Joint Ventures lecture series?
To involve, inform and educate patients and the public in all aspects of Musculoskeletal research in Oxford. To improve the relevance, quality and appropriateness of that research from the patient's perspective.
Joint Ventures was a series of public information events that ran from May 2009 – July 2011 at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre (NOC) in the form of a pair of short lectures, culminating with discussion and questions from the floor. The talks were followed by refreshments provided in the café area of the atrium at the NOC, where presenters, medical staff and the audience were able to meet up and continue their discussions.
These talks were put in place as part of a programme to engage and inform the public of current and future musculoskeletal research plans in Oxford.
The aim of Joint Ventures was to reach as wide an audience as possible in terms of age and subject. The main target audience is shown below:
- Local residents
- Charities and patient support groups
- Oxford University Medical students
- Brookes University — Health sciences students
- Local schools — 6th Form students with an interest in medicine
- Patients in local GP surgeries
- Current and former patients of the NOC
The series provided an informal and relaxed environment where questions relating to the topic could be asked of the clinicians and researchers.
