The new Fellows have been recognised by the Academy for their remarkable contributions to biomedical and health science and their ability to generate new knowledge and improve the health of people everywhere.

Professor Costa said: “I’m delighted to be elected to the Academy of Medical Sciences. While it’s my name on the list of Fellows, this honour really reflects the hard work and dedication of the whole of the Trauma and Emergency Care team within NDORMS. We will all keep working towards better outcomes for patients suffering traumatic injuries in the UK and globally.”

Matthew’s research is in clinical and cost effectiveness of musculoskeletal interventions and he is Chief Investigator for a series of randomised trials and associated studies. Cited widely, his work informs many guidelines from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).
