History of CSM

Contact CSM

CSM was established within the Institute of Health Sciences, Oxford, in September 1995. We relocated to the Wolfson College Annexe in April 2005, then joined NDORMS in 2013, moving to our present location at the Botnar Research Centre.

CSM was led by our founding director, Prof Doug Altman, until 2017.

CSM and the Oxford Clinical Trials Research Unit (OCTRU) merged in 2017, under the leadership of Prof Sallie Lamb (CSM Director: 2017-2019).

Prof Gary Collins took up the post of Interim Director of CSM in October 2019.

Prof Doug Altman

Our founding director, Prof Doug Altman stepped down in 2017 and passed away on 3 June 2018. His life and work have been celebrated widely. Read more about Doug's life here and a celebration of Doug on the BMJ.

Thank you, Doug Altman
