NDORMS Professor of Musculoskeletal and Surgical Science, David Beard, has been named National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) Senior Investigator.

David Beard

The NIHR describes its Senior Investigators as among the “most prominent and prestigious researchers” and “most outstanding leaders of patients and people-based research within the NIHR research community.”

David has been named Senior Investigator in recognition of his outstanding leadership in research.

On being recognised as a Senior Investigator, David said “It is always an honour and privilege to be personally named as an NIHR Senior Investigator and in some ways ratifies many years of dedication and hard work.  However, I would like this award to be also badged to anyone (in any capacity) who has worked or helped me along the way (including those who already have the award – and we have a good number in the Division!).  The NIHR is a truly excellent organisation and I am extremely proud to have been recognised by them.  It is going to help me continue to lead (hopefully) top quality health related research into the future.”

David is also Rosetrees Director of the Royal College of Surgeons (RCS) Surgical Intervention Trials Unit (SITU-NDORMS) and one of the five RCS Chairs in Surgical Trials in the UK. He is responsible for a portfolio of surgical and complex intervention trials, many as co-applicant and some as Chief Investigator.
