Introducing Parisa

Parisa Sinai, DISCUS trial manager since Jan 11, 2021.

We asked Parisa...

How did you come across the role and what interested you about it?

My previous post at University of Bristol had just finished – during COVID times - and I saw the job advert for a neurosurgery trial at Oxford University.  As it sounded very interesting, I decided to apply.

What did you do prior to the role you are currently in?

Previous to DISCUS, I have worked in secondary care/ multi-centre surgery studies/CTIMPs and RCTs.  Before DISCUS, I was senior research associate/ trial manager for a breast surgery study at University of Bristol.  Concurrently, I also coordinated a public health paediatric ophthalmology cluster randomised controlled feasibility study in schools.  Previous to these, I had trial manager posts in a Phase 1a CTIMP immunotherapy of Diabetes Type I vaccine trial (international- Cardiff University- Swansea trials units) and a randomised controlled trial in chronic fatigue in paediatrics (BTC/BRTC - Bristol Trials Centre -University of Bristol)).  I also worked as research projects manager at BTC/BRTC, where I held a dual appointment with the Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire Clinical Commissioning Group (BNSSG CCG).  I set up surgery studies (urology), helped with primary care studies, learned about trial finances and trained as the patient & public involvement coordinator (PPI).  At BNSSG CCG, I worked in the research and evidence team communicating with the university, NHS commissioners and other CRNs/ CCGs.  I started as a coordinator in breast and orthopaedic surgeries.

Previous to clinical trials, I had a career as an academic researcher in immunology where I worked for 10 years on novel drug evaluations in autoimmune and cancer animal models, while managing/mentoring students and laboratory personnel.

If you weren’t a trial manager what would you be?

I will know when I grow up! But I would say, community involvement, biking, walking and chilling in the sun!

What’s the best bit about being a part of the SITU Team?

Absolutely People and People and its People! Starting a post remotely is hard enough but SITU has really done a great job. Trial manager’s forum, Jo C. (DISCUS set up), Nadjat M. and all other members of SITU have really been wonderful and helpful to ensure a fair transition to SITU.  Thank you all very much.
