The AFTER (Ankle Fracture Treatment: Enhancing Rehabilitation) project is a NIHR funded four year programme of work that is aiming to refine and assess different approaches to providing physiotherapy after an ankle fracture for adults aged 50 years or over.

The research programme involves four related work packages –

  1. A systematic review of research into exercises for lower limb fractures in older adults,
  2. An analysis of a dataset of older adults that had an ankle fracture,
  3. An intervention development meeting, and
  4. A feasibility randomised controlled trial based on the first three work packages.
