The Kennedy Institute is a world-leading research institute that carries out basic and translational research into chronic inflammatory and degenerative diseases. Each year the Institute awards up to six Kennedy Trust Prize DPhil Studentships to outstanding candidates of any nationality. The DPhil programme aims to provide world-class scientific training in a supportive and collaborative environment. Students get to select from a range of exciting research projects in the areas of immunity and microbiome, inflammation, and tissue remodelling and regeneration. Many of these projects span two or more research groups, and provide an opportunity for multidisciplinary and innovative research applying state of the art technologies to novel biological problems. The programme provides 4 years of funding that includes a highly competitive stipend (over £22,000 per annum) as well as tuition and college fees, and allowance for laboratory expenses and conference travel.

  • Students undertake a core curriculum of 20 lectures in the first term of year 1 to provide a solid foundation in musculoskeletal sciences, inflammation, immunology and data analysis.
