Help us dissect the cellular and molecular causes of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease as part of the Monaco and Sansom groups at the Kennedy Institute.

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join the Monaco and Sansom groups, who are working together to apply systems-level approaches to dissect the cellular and molecular causes of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease. Based at the Kennedy Institute (https://www.kennedy.ox.ac.uk) at the University of Oxford, they use state-of-the art genomic, computational, and mechanistic experimental approaches to study pathogenesis in models and clinical cohorts. Recently, for example, they used a single-cell approach to identify a novel inflammatory lipid-associated macrophage population in human atherosclerosis1.
 
You will join a team of excellence in the field of cardiovascular immunology and computational sciences and help identifying the causes of cardiovascular disease and help identify new potential therapeutic targets for intervention. You will be responsible for performing scientific research, reviewing and refining working hypotheses, and developing and acquiring relevant skills. You will analyse and interpret data, preparing and publishing your findings in peer-reviewed journals whilst actively participating in the local research team, working closely with experimental and clinical colleagues to share data and findings and help design experiments. You will be expected to actively contribute to an international network of clinical, basic and computational scientists focused on developing, training and sharing computational methodologies applied to the field of cardiovascular disease.
 
You must hold a PhD/DPhil in a discipline of direct relevant to bioinformatics research and have a strong and demonstrable competence with programming languages including Python and/or R, application of machine learning algorithms, and the use of version control software. You will have the ability to deliver research outputs of the highest quality, as demonstrated by a strong publication record in top-tier scientific journals that includes the computational and statistical analysis of complex systems-level data sets. A passion for problem-solving and research in the areas of single-cell and spatial genomics that is grounded in expert-level knowledge and experience is essential. Degree-level training in cellular and molecular biology/immunology/cancer research or equivalent experience is desirable.
 
This is a fixed-term, full time position for 2 years.
