The LASER Trial is a multi-centre randomised, double blind, placebo-controlled, parallel group trial of the effectiveness of the nocturnal use of a Temperature Controlled Laminar Airflow (TLA) Device (Airsonett®) in adults with poorly-controlled, severe allergic asthma. The trial was funded by the HTA 12/33/28 opened to recruitment in May 2014 with a tight recruitment schedule. Recruitment began slower than anticipated however with more sites coming on board and some exciting social media and website advertising, recruitment picked up, exceeding the trial team’s expectations and finished within time and target. The overall number randomised was 240 patients which was above our target of 222. The trial is now in follow up. Results are due July 2017 watch this space!
