WHITE INITIATE

Part of the WHiTE (World Hip Trauma Evaluation) studies, INITIATE stands for Increased Mobility in Hospital after Hip Fracture. The aim of the trial is to find out if more ward-based mobilisation activity after hip fracture surgery allows people to get home more quickly and stay living in their own home longer. In INITIATE, it is hospitals that are randomised rather than participants: half our sites are randomised to deliver the additional mobilisation activity and half will stay with their usual care. Individual participants at all sites can then consent to some additional data collection and to be followed up at 30 and 120 days. Our first site, Southmead Hospital Bristol, have now opened to recruitment and registered their first participant on 12th August 2024.
