Although secondary fracture prevention is accepted as clinically essential and cost-effective, implementing the required service level changes to achieve these benefits is challenging. This article describes the history of secondary fracture prevention in the United Kingdom, current initiatives, and future programmes of work that are proposed to close this care gap.
