Aneka Sowman

DPhil Student

During the course of my undergraduate degree in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Oxford, I undertook a short research project at NDORMS under the supervision of Prof. Udo Oppermann which introduced me to the wide variety of research areas currently being pursued in the field of bone biology. After graduation from my BA in September 2015, I returned to NDORMS to embark upon a DPhil in Cellular and Molecular Medicine under the supervision of Dr James Edwards, with funding provided by the Medical Research Council and Arthritis Research UK. Now in its fourth year, my project focusses on adiponectin, a hormone that is produced by fat cells and circulates in the blood, and its effects on the maintenance of bone health.
