Edward Samuel Hookway

Postdoctoral Researcher

My research focuses on epigenetic mechanisms in both primary bone cancer, especially Ewing Sarcoma, and cancer that affects bone such as multiple myeloma. I use a range of traditional molecular biology and cell culture techniques and am developing an interesting in the application of Next Generation Sequencing technologies to answer fundamental questions about the epigenetic driving factors involved in cancer development. Working in collaboration with Prof Ulrich Guenther, University of Birmingham, I use Nuclear Magnetic Resonance technology to study cell metabolism its perturbation in cancer.

After qualifying in medicine from Gonville and Caius College, University of Cambridge, I worked as a doctor in the NHS in both East Anglia and London. I spent time working in the cancer unit of Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge and the Royal Marsden Hospital in London before returning to the labs to focus on the basic science underlying cancer development and treatment.
