Senior Medical Statistician
Specialist in maternal and child health (growth), infectious disease epidemiology, and prognostic modelling
I joined the Centre for Statistics in Medicine (CSM) at NDORMS in April 2016 as a Senior Medical Statistician, working with the Prognostic modelling group (50%). I am also a Senior Medical Statistician at the Nuffield Department of Medicine, Centre for Tropical Medicine and Global Health where I am part of the core organising team, and lecturer for, the MSc in International Health and Tropical Medicine. In addition, I am responsible for organising the Statistics and Epidemiology module of the MSc.
Before joining NDORMS, I worked at the Nuffield Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (NDOG), University of Oxford from September 2010 until March 2016, where I was the principal Medical Statistician for the INTERGROWTH-21st project, whose primary objective was the production of international, multi-ethnic, standards for foetal, neonatal and preterm post-neonatal growth. The work resulted in some key publications i.e., the international standards for pregnancy dating, standards for monitoring fetal size during pregnancy, neonatal size at birth, postnatal standards for monitoring preterms from birth to 6 months, gestational weight gain standards, and symphysis fundal height standards.
I have also worked at the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI)/Wellcome Trust Research Centre, Kilifi, Kenya from May 2006 to August 2010 as a Medical Statistician, providing support to research scientists on various projects, supporting MSc and PhD students, and providing statistical trainings and short courses in the unit.
I graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Applied Statistics from Maseno University, Kenya in 2005, followed by an MSc in Medical Statistics from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) in 2009. I completed a DPhil (Ph.D) in 2016 at the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, University of Oxford on statistical issues in the study of fetal and neonatal growth.
