Gurdas is the current BSSH Research Fellow, one of the youngest awardees in the fellowship’s history. He is a candidate for the MSc by Research in Musculoskeletal Sciences at The Botnar Research Centre and, supported by the Royal College of Surgeons of England, is studying under the supervision of Professor Dominic Furniss, Mr Jeremy Rodrigues and Dr Rafael Pinedo-Villanueva.
He is using Hospital Episode Statistics, Hospital Reference Groupers and The UK Hand Registry to produce Markov models for the analysis of cost-effectiveness of surgical treatments for use in Dupuytren’s Disease healthcare in England, in response to NHS England’s consultation on Evidence-Based Interventions.
Gurdas reads Medicine at The Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ School of Medical Education in London, where he has been awarded a number of prizes for his performance in his academic efforts, including the Drs Man and Kang Wong Award in Cardiology, the Dr Flora Smyth-Zahra Prize for Clinical Leadership, the Doctor as Teacher Award, the CAIPE Student Scholarship and the Royal College of Surgeons of England Intercalation Award.
During medical school, he has undertaken research at the Plastic Surgery Department at St Thomas’ Hospital, The Cicely Saunders Institute of Palliative Care, The Genetics Centre at The University of Leicester and The Stone Unit at Guy’s Hospital.
Gurdas sits on the NHS Assembly who advise the Boards of NHS England and NHS Improvement on delivery of the improvements in health and care it outlines. He currently serves as a committee member of the Future Surgeons Forum at the Royal College of Surgeons of England which is made up of the presidents of each of the surgical societies across the medical schools in the UK. He also chairs the British Medical Association’s Medical Student Committee. He sits on several other British Medical Association committees, including but not limited to: The Strategic Reference Group, The Junior Doctors Committee Executive, The Board of Science, The London Regional Council Executive, UK Council, The GMC Working Party and The Board of Trustees for BMA Charities.
Gurdas is also one of two Editors-in-Chief for the Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ Gazette, the oldest hospital journal in the world.
