Hamez is a Medical Doctor from the Netherlands who is currently reading a DPhil in Musculoskeletal Sciences under the supervision of Associate Professor Stephanie Dakin and Professor Andrew Carr. His research is focused on studying the role of inflammatory mediators in the pathophysiology of Frozen Shoulder with an aim to guide novel therapies in the near future. Besides his DPhil studies, Hamez works as a Junior Doctor at the Trauma Unit of the John Radcliffe Hospital and at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre (NOC).

Hamez studied Medicine at Leiden University in the Netherlands, during which he developed a profound interest in orthopaedic surgery. During his final year he attended a Research Traineeship at the Botnar Research Center, University of Oxford (NDORMS) where he investigated the role of alarmin high-mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) in Frozen Shoulder. After graduating in 2018, he started working as a Junior Doctor in the Department of Orthopaedics at the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC). In 2019 he was awarded a Dunhill Medical Trust (DMT) Research Training Fellowship to undertake a DPhil at the University of Oxford. In addition, he received a Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds scholarship (NL) and a Studiefonds Ketel 1 scholarship (NL) for academic merit.

Upon completing his DPhil, Hamez will start his Trauma & Orthopaedic training in the Netherlands at the LUMC in Leiden.
