Prof Matt Costa has just returned from the Philippines, where he launched the new HIPCARE trial with co-lead investigator Prof Irewin Tabu. The first of five Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMIC) in Asia to take part, eight hospitals in the Philippines will start recruiting patients with fragility fractures of the hip to the study within weeks.

The early warning signs of psoriatic arthritis (PsA) can be hard to spot. Any delay in diagnosis of PsA can leave patients uncomfortable and in pain. But slow diagnosis is all too common, according to Professor Laura Coates. She is leading a new study called HPOS, that is looking for 2000 UK volunteers to chart their psoriasis symptoms, and which may help to explain why one third of psoriasis patients to go on to develop arthritis.

Researchers at the University of Oxford are starting a new study to explore the effectiveness of the anti-tumour necrosis factor (anti-TNF) drug adalimumab as a treatment for patients with COVID-19 in the community, especially care homes. The AVID-CC trial, which will be conducted by Oxford Clinical Trials Research Unit (OCTRU), will enrol up to 750 patients from community care settings throughout the UK.
