Trauma and Emergency Care Group
We run a number of clinical trials in orthopaedic trauma and aim to inform best practice in the field, as well as the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines. The Trauma and Emergency Care group is situated at the Kadoorie Critical Care Research Centre located at the John Radcliffe Hospital.

Our focus is the use of experimental medicine techniques to elucidate the mechanism of action and potential clinical utility of novel therapeutic agents. The core of our work is in rheumatology but as the portfolio expands we are applying these approaches to other therapeutic area.
Surgical Intervention Trials Unit (SITU-NDS)
The University of Oxford Surgical Intervention Trials Unit (SITU) represents a collaboration between the Nuffield Department of Surgical Sciences (NDS) and the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology, and Musculoskeletal Sciences (NDORMS). SITU is a dedicated team of surgical investigators offering expert trial management support and serving as a training and development hub for surgical trialists across the UK. Recognized as one of nine UK Royal College of Surgeons-endorsed clinical trial centres, SITU supports trials spanning all surgical specialties, from urology to orthopaedics.

It provides the resource for clinical trials in Gastroenterology so that patients have access to the newest potential treatments, scientists have a platform to translate target discovery into practice and that Oxford is seen to make a substantial contribution to drug development in Gastroenterology.

Pauklin Group | TGFß signalling in cancer stem cells
Our research covers interests in the fields of cancer research and stem cell biology. We focus on the molecular mechanisms of pancreatic cancer formation, particularly the function of TGFβ/Activin/Nodal-Smad2/3 signalling pathway in the formation and maintenance of cancer stem cells in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinomas.
