Research Fellow in Clinical Biomechanics
- ORUK Early Career Research Fellow
Clinical Biomechanics researcher interested in body movements and therapeutic mechanisms.
I am a research fellow at the Oxford Orthopaedic Engineering Centre. I work with Prof Stephen Mellon on the fusion of ultrasound imaging and motion-capture techniques for human movement analysis. This project is supported by Versus Arthritis and Orthopaedic Research UK. We aim to develop a novel method for rapid, robust 3-D joint position assessment, improving the efficiency of clinical examinations. I received an Early Career Research Fellowship from ORUK, which supported earlier clinical data collection and system verification. The project has attracted larger-scale funding from NIHR, and we are now collaborating with the Oxford Robotics Institute and teams in the University of Cardiff and the University of Bristol.
Within OOEC, I co-supervise DPhil students with Prof David Murray, and our current interests are in computer-aided image analysis and robotics-assisted navigation for the Oxford Unicompartmental knee replacement.
While studying for my PhD at Queen Mary, University of London, I developed an ultrasound-based semi-automatic computer-tracking method to quantify soft-tissue dynamics and validate in vivo effects and taping therapy mechanisms. Before my PhD, I was trained in Sports Medicine at Kaohsiung Medical University in Taiwan, followed by clinical and research-based master's studies in the UK and Taiwan. I am now particularly interested in understanding the effects and mechanisms of musculoskeletal disorders and in developing therapies through computer-aided clinical data analysis.
In addition to my research work, I coordinate and lecture on the Biomechanics Module in the MSc in Musculoskeletal Sciences.
In my spare time, I am a fan of new technology and sports; I watch F1 and listen to both pop and baroque music. I am also a serious coffee lover who is passionate about developing home barista skills.
