Trueta bursary students attending the Summer School at St Hilda's College, Oxford

Recently, 41 students from across the globe gathered in the beautiful surroundings of St Hilda’s College for the Real-World Epidemiology Summer School. Run by the Botnar Institute, the annual programme focuses on the OMOP (Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership) Common Data Model, a framework that organises healthcare data from diverse sources such as hospitals, clinics, research studies, into a standardised format. By doing so, it empowers observational research across various healthcare organisations to improve patient outcomes.

Among the group were three students had received a prestigious Trueta bursary. Named after Professor Josep Trueta, who fled Spain as a refugee after the Spanish civil war and became an international lead in surgical sciences, they enable individuals to attend the week-long programme as well as covering their accommodation costs.

Our Trueta bursary attendees were:

  • David Amadi from Zambia,
  • Maria Jesús Rojas Lechuga  from Chile,
  • Anthony Torres-Ruesta from Peru.

We caught up with David, Maria, and Anthony to hear about their experiences at the Summer School.
