Congratulations to Associate Professor Sara Khalid on her successful Wellcome Accelerator Award.

Sara Khalid

Sara received the Wellcome Trust  Accelerator award to further the research of her group, The Planetary Health Informatics (PHI) Lab. Based within the Centre for Statistics in Medicine, the group explores how environmental and wider determinants of health impact human health. By combining artificial intelligence, satellite data, and real-world data on global health, the team studies chronic and communicable diseases, tracks climate and environmental effects on health, to study health inequities within the UK and internationally.

Commenting about the award Sara said: ‘Our health is affected by a wide range of exposures and this can include factors like who we are, our diet and lifestyles, the the physical, natural, and the social environments we live in. This award will enable us to develop AI-powered, whole-exposome models that can improve our understanding of these broader determinants of health and help mitigate their inequitable impacts, and moving us closer to better health for all.'
