Bethany Fordham
Senior Research Fellow in Psychology
I graduated from Magdalen College, Oxford (2005) with a BA in Experimental Psychology and from City University, London (2006) with an MSc in Health Psychology.
I worked as a Guideline Manager and Implementation Advisor at the National Collaborating Centre for Mental Health developing NICE mental health guidelines and supported their local and national implementation. I completed my mixed methods PhD at the University of Manchester (2012) which examined the effectiveness and acceptability of mindfulness based cognitive therapy (MBCT) for people living with psoriasis. During my PhD I became a qualified MBCT practitioner and have maintained my clinical work.
From 2012 until 2015, I worked as an Outcomes Researcher for ICON Plc consultancy in the Patient Reported Outcomes department. I was the project manager for several studies including utility studies, discrete choice experiments, systematic reviews, instrument development and validation.
In July 2015, I began working at the Centre for Rehabilitation Research in Oxford as a Psychology Fellow. My work includes integrating health psychology theory and interventions across multidisciplinary studies. I have a focus on unpacking the mechanisms of action within stand-alone and adjunct psychological interventions in order to improve the extrapolation of research to clinical implementation.
I am currently working on the Back Skills Training National implementation project and Dementia and Physical Activity trial.
