Christian Cotchobos

DPhil student

Christian is a medical doctor from South Africa currently pursuing a DPhil within the Oxford Orthopaedic Engineering Centre. His research focuses on coronal limb alignment and tibial component positioning in the Oxford Unicompartmental Knee Replacement, examining how surgical alignment decisions influence implant performance and longevity in anteromedial osteoarthritis.

His clinical experience across diverse South African healthcare settings has given him a strong appreciation of the realities of musculoskeletal disease and the challenges of delivering high-quality surgical care in resource-constrained environments. Combined with a Master’s in Global Surgery, this has informed his long-term goal of developing cost-effective solutions to musculoskeletal disease.

Outside of work, he enjoys spending time outdoors and is an active member of the Oxford University Athletics Club.
