Elliot Johnson-Hall
BSc (Hons), MRes
DPhil student
I studied Anatomy and Developmental Biology at the University of Edinburgh. For my dissertation project I developed a dual-material 3D-printed scaffold for entheseal tissue engineering in collaboration with the University of Dundee.
Subsequently, I pursued an MRes in Health Sciences Research at the University of Bristol. My project involved the fabrication of high-concentration collagen I or II hydrogels for articular cartilage repair.
I was awarded the Henni Mester studentship to undertake my DPhil research on the synovial response to arthroplasty. My research uses waste tissue from joint replacement operations to study the biology of the synovium with a view to improving joint replacements. Future applications of my work include predicting who will require reoperation and improving the diagnosis of infection after joint replacement.
