Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences (NDORMS)
Grade 7: Salary of £38,674 per annum
This is a full time, fixed term position for 6 months.
We are seeking a highly skilled Postdoctoral Research Assistant to join a research group with responsibility for carrying out research focused on the regulation of innate sensing and signalling in macrophages at the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology. In this position you will report to the Principal Investigator, Professor Jelena Bezbradica Mirkovic.
In this position you will manage your own academic research and administrative activities which involves small-scale project management, to coordinate multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines. You will adapt existing and develop new scientific techniques to visualise macrophage innate signalling (focus on inflammasome signalling) using microscopy and the latest biochemical techniques as well as develop 2D and 3D models to study direct interaction between macrophages and other tissue resident cells. Additionally, you will test hypotheses and analyse scientific data from a variety of sources, reviewing and refining working hypotheses as appropriate. In this position you will contribute ideas for new research projects and develop ideas for generating research income and present detailed research proposals to senior researchers.
You must hold PhD/DPhil (or be near completion) in immunology with a focus on innate signalling in macrophages and specifically inflammasome pathway signalling. You possess extensive hands-on wet lab experience in retroviral transduction of mutated genes in primary macrophages and in visualising inflammasome signalling in macrophages using both microscopy and biochemistry. Experience in developing therapeutic translation-focused projects is desirable.
Due to the nature of the research at the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology, this job will require additional security pre-employment checks:
• A satisfactory basic Disclosure and Barring Service check
