  • Senior Research Fellow
  • Director of DPhil and MSc(Res) Taught Courses

Pip's research focuses on improving the management of knee and hip osteoarthritis in older adults.

In April 2024 she completed a Versus Arthritis Foundation Fellowship, having developed an exercise intervention for the oldest adults (aged 80 years or older) with hip and knee osteoarthritis and common co-morbidities, and tested it in a randomised feasibility trial (the TEMPO trial). She is currently undertaking a Versus Arthritis Bridging Fellowship to complete a process evaluation of the TEMPO trial, and to develop recommendations to improve the diversity of participants taking part in exercise trials.

Pip completed her PhD with Prof Kim Bennell at the Univeristy of Melbourne in 2017, exploring adherence to exercise among patients with knee osteoarthritis. She joined NDORMS in 2018 as a postdoctoral researcher with Prof Sallie Lamb.

Pip currently splits her time between NDORMS and the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, where her research focuses on improving management and outcomes for people having total knee replacement and revision knee replacement surgery.

Pip is a member of the Outcome Measures in Rheumatology (OMERACT) International Hip and Knee Osteoarthritis working group and a member of Osteoarthritis Research International (OARSI).

Since qualifying as a Physiotherapist from the University of Otago (New Zealand) Pip has worked in orthopaedic inpatient and outpatient departments in New Zealand, the UK and Australia, and continues to work clinically at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre.
