Professor Vincent joined presenter Jenni Murray and patient Linda Muller to talk about arthritis of the hand, why it is most common in women after the menopause and whether the condition can be prevented or treated.
Asked if there are any supplements that could be recommended, Professor Vincent said: "I say to patients they should try anything that they think might work and if it works they should continue to take it, but there is nothing proven in any clinical trials."
Professor of Musculoskeletal Biology at the University of Oxford, Tonia Vincent is also a consultant rheumatologist and Director of the Arthritis Research UK Centre for Osteoarthritis Pathogenesis, Oxford.
