The Kennedy Green Impact Team recently took home Green Impact scheme Lab Gold and Building Silver awards at University's Fifth Sustainability Showcase. The recycling and sustainably event aimed to build on this success by fostering collaborations between Green Impact Teams and other sustainability partners across the University.

The Kennedy's Green Impact Team is led by Tiph Bouriez-Jones, the Institute's Laboratories Manager and Safety Officer, and Adrian Brown, Facilities Manager.

Tiph said "We're keen to work together and share our work to make sure that we, as a whole, manage to make an effective difference and help achieve the University's sustainability targets".

Besides Kennedy occupants, the event was attended by other Green Impact Teams from the Old Road Campus, to explore ways of working together on sustainable projects and cost-saving initiatives.

The University's Sustainability Team were on hand to discuss how they fund local projects, joined by Select, the University's designated waste disposal and recycling company, as well as representatives from Starlab and NEB promoting their own sustainability initiatives.

"One project to come out of the event focuses on alternative methods of polystyrene disposal to reduce general waste across Campus. We are exploring various options including a Campus polystyrene compactor, as well as a small baler and ultimately recycling routes for compacted low density polyethylene." said Tiph.

The Green Impact scheme aims to empower people to make their workplaces more sustainable through a number of small changes which lead to big environmental benefits.
