We are seeking a highly skilled Postdoctoral Research Assistant to join Professor Michael Dustin’s research group at the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology. This post will be part of a research group with responsibility for carrying out research on mechanisms regulating immunological synapse formation and function. The post holder provides guidance to less experienced members of the research group, including postdocs, research assistants, technicians, and PhD and project students.
In this post you will manage your own academic research and administrative tasks, this will include small scale project management to coordinate multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines. You will adapt existing and develop new scientific techniques and experimental protocols as well as contribute ideas for new research projects. Additionally, you will test hypotheses and analyse scientific data from a variety of sources, reviewing and refining working hypotheses as appropriate. In this role, you will develop ideas for generating research income, and present detailed research proposals to senior researchers, as well as collaborate in the preparation of scientific reports and journal articles and occasionally present papers and posters.
You must hold a PhD/DPhil in biomedicine or a related field, together with relevant experience. You will have experience in preparing supported-lipid bilayers and performing Total Internal Reflection Fluorescence (TIRF) microscopy, together with advanced skills in quantitative image analysis. You will have experience isolating T lymphocytes from human blood and performing mRNA electroporation, as well as experience in flow cytometry. You will also have experience with molecular biology techniques, plasmid cloning and in vitro mRNA synthesis. Experience working on ion channels in T lymphocytes and/or immunological synapses and the use of an electronic lab notebook are desirable.
