We're looking for a Research Technician specialising in laboratory work with human tissues for translational bench-to-bedside research in carpal tunnel syndrome.
We are seeking to recruit a Research Technician specialising in laboratory work involving human tissues to join the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences (NDORMS), based at the Botnar Research Centre, Oxford. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual interested in contributing to a programme of translational bench-to-bedside research in carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS), an important musculoskeletal disease caused by nerve compression. You will join the Wiberg Group (Peripheral Nerve Research Lab), which works closely with the Furniss Group (Genetics and Epidemiology of Common Hand Conditions).
As a Research Technician in our group, you will be responsible for managing own research and administrative activities, within guidelines provided by senior colleagues. You will determine the most appropriate methodologies to test hypotheses, identify suitable alternatives if technical problems arise, and select, follow, and adapt experimental protocols. You will also be responsible for general laboratory management and administration, including stock control of laboratory consumables and liaising with clinical and research nurse teams to ensure collection of suitable patient samples. In addition, you will support the development of in vitro and ex vivo models employing cells and whole tissues derived from patients with carpal tunnel syndrome.
You must hold a BSc or MSc in biological science (or equivalent experience). Previous lab experience (includes, but not limited to relevant undergraduate activities), cell culture techniques, basic molecular biology e.g PCR/qPCR, DNA/RNA isolation, Western blot, microscopy, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to work flexibly are essential. Previous experience of NGS library preparation and working in a university environment are desirable but not essential.
This is a full-time (part-time min 60% will be considered), fixed-term appointment for 2 years. Start date from 4 August, later start dates will be considered.
