On 25th April the CRF team welcomed over 50 nurses and research delivery staff from Clinical Research Facilities across the country for a day long workshop on Applied Pharmacology.

Hosted by the NIHR Oxford Clinical Research Facility, the workshop focussed on the role of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics in the development of new treatments. The audience heard from speakers from Oxford University, Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust and Barts Healthcare and learnt about how an understanding of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics informs the selection of dose and suitable patient population for a new medicine, and the key role it plays in patient safety. Sessions also highlighted drug reactions such as Cytokine Release Syndrome and how these can be managed clinically.  Participants also had an opportunity to participate in hands on workshops focussing on practical aspects of sample collection and handling, and on safety reporting in clinical trials.

This workshop forms part of a wider programme of education and development opportunities provided through the UKCRF network. We are grateful to the NIHR Oxford BRC for financial support.
