The Big BOSS Study is trying to improve the treatment of children aged between 8 and 15 years old who have a hip condition called a Slipped Capital Femoral Epiphysis (also known as a SCFE or SUFE). This is a rare, but important, condition affecting older children. Recruitment opened on 02Nov2023 and will compare the two commonly used treatments in a group of 192 children in whom the SCFE has caused the hip to significantly change shape. The two groups are:

Corrective surgery to improve the shape and stabilise the hip with screw(s)

vs

Keyhole surgery to stabilise the hip with screw(s) without correcting the hip shape.
