Target audience:
- Research teams involved in the design and delivery of clinical trials.
Workshop outline:
Research shows that participants in trials often don’t reflect the populations in which treatments are needed or will be used. Who takes part in trials matters because it affects how widely applicable the research findings are. When participants in trials don’t match the populations in which treatments will be used, it can lead to problems like treatment benefits and harms that we see in trials not translating to real world patients, or could lead to the research missing important findings that are specific to different populations. The INCLUDE guidance, funded by NIHR, aims to help improve the inclusion of under-served groups in health research.
This workshop will cover:
- Why is it important to INCLUDE under-served groups in trials?
- What is an under-served group?
- Examples of under-served groups
- Barriers to inclusion in trials and expectations of trial funders
- Applying the INCLUDE guidance in practice (small group exercise)
This session is taking place in Botnar G54/G38. It is in-person only attendance.
