Louise Spoors
Clinical Trial Manager
I joined NDORMS in May 2016 as the Trial Manager for the WHIST study, led by Chief Investigator Prof Matt Costa.
Once recruitment was complete, Marta Campolier took over WHIST and I started work on the new Children’s Trauma Trials (FORCE & SCIENCE) led by Chief Investigator Mr Dan Perry. These trials are essentially paperless, with all data captured on the REDCap system, including consent and assent. Patient Information is also provided via multimedia information (MMI) and participant follow-up is completely electronic and automatic, thanks to our brilliant Senior Information Specialist Dr Duncan Appelbe. The next children’s trial to set up is CRAFFT.
I am a nurse by background, with 17 years of experience in the operating theatre as a theatre and anaesthetic nurse, but I have also completed a BSC (Hons) degree in Biomedical Science in 2001. I moved to Oxford and changed career direction in 2004 becoming a Falls Specialist Nurse for Oxfordshire Falls Prevention Service in the primary care sector. I completed an MSc in Public Health at Oxford Brookes University and naturally pursued a career in research afterwards. I was fortunate to become a Research Nurse in Orthopaedic Trauma at the John Radcliffe Hospital prior to moving to the management side with NDORMS 5 years later.
