Marina Nikolic

MSc, BSc (Hons)

Research Assistant in Next-Generation Sequencing of Musculoskeletal Tissues

I obtained my BSc (Hons) in Biochemistry from University of Novi Sad (Serbia) in 2021. In 2023, I completed my MSc studies in Cancer Biology at Kingston University in London. I then worked at the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) in London as part of a Translational Genetics team where I developed an interest in next-generation sequencing methods.

In September 2024, I moved to the Botnar Research Centre and joined the Assoc. Prof. Sarah Snelling and Assoc. Prof. Adam Cribbs labs to work within the UKRI Musculoskeletal Functional Genomics Initiative Cluster (MSK Cluster), led by Professor Dominic Furniss. In my role, I am using next-generation sequencing methods to interrogate musculoskeletal tissues and acquire data that will help accelerate translation of genetic findings to treat key musculoskeletal diseases. My responsibilities include tissue management and processing, RNA, DNA and nuclei isolation and preparation of libraries for single-nuclei, long-read and short-read sequencing.
