Nicholas Groth Merrild
MEng, MSc, PhD
Postdoctoral Researcher in the Molecular Pathogenesis of Osteoarthritis
Nicholas studied mechanical engineering (MEng: awarded 2014) and biomedical engineering with biomaterials (MSc: awarded 2016) at The University of Edinburgh and Imperial College London respectively. In 2016, he was awarded a PhD studentship with the Medical Research Council (MRC) Doctoral Training Partnership in Biomedical and Translational Science at King’s College London. He completed his PhD in regenerative medicine and tissue engineering at the Centre for Craniofacial and Regenerative Biology under Dr Eileen Gentleman (awarded 2021).
As a postdoctoral researcher, Nicholas joined the Vincent Group at the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology in October 2021. In collaboration with Professor Johnathan Swann (University of Southampton) and Dr Lindsay Hall (Quadram Institute Bioscience), his work explores the relationship between gut-derived metabolites, the microbiome, and the prevention of developing osteoarthritis.
His work is funded by the MRC.
