Lydia Underdown
Head of Information Governance, Compliance and Assurance
I lead on Information Governance, Compliance and Assurance at NDORMS, providing strategic oversight of the department's governance, risk management, cyber security and regulatory compliance functions.
With over fifteen years' experience in complex, highly regulated environments, I develop and mature governance frameworks, lead assurance and audit programmes, and advise the Head of Department and senior leadership on information risk, data protection and regulatory obligations — including the department's annual NHS Data Security and Protection Toolkit submission and NHS Digital audit compliance.
I have played a key role in major digital transformation programmes, including as Business Lead for phases of the University of Oxford's Trusted Research Environment, and have developed frameworks for the responsible adoption of Generative AI across research, education and professional services.
A University-wide Continuous Improvement ambassador, I work across the University to strengthen information governance capability, provide independent assurance support to other departments, and am committed to building a culture in which good governance enables rather than constrains excellent research.
