Research Manager

As the manager of the Clinical Ophthalmology Research Group, Marco assists Professor Robert MacLaren in the management of his world-class medical research and clinical trial programmes developing and testing innovative therapies, prosthetics and surgical techniques for treatment of blindness. Marco also coordinates the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Oxford Biomedical Research Centre programme in Gene and Cell Therapy led by Professor Robert MacLaren and Professor Ronjon Chakraverty.

Marco's responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing the operational and financial management of the Clinical Ophthalmology Research Group and the NIHR Oxford Biomedical Research Centre programme in Gene and Cell Therapy.
  • Leading the preparation and submission of funding applications, and managing the administrative and reporting requirements of awarded research grants.
  • Sourcing new avenues of funding from governmental agencies, philanthropic foundations and research charities, as well as exploring potential collaborative partnerships with biopharmaceutical companies and other industrial partners.
  • Drafting job descriptions, and assisting HR with interviewing and recruitment.
  • Assisting colleagues with bookings and reimbursements for conference-related travel.
