MRes | BSc (Hons)

DPhil student

Mellon Longevity Graduate Scholar | Onassis Foundation Scholar

I am a DPhil student specialising in ageing research, supervised by Dr Ghada Alsaleh and Prof. Lynne Cox. I completed my Bachelors degree in Biomedical Genetics at Newcastle University, during which I worked on female reproductive ageing under the supervision of Prof. Mary Herbert. Following the completion of my undergraduate studies, I continued with an MRes in Ageing and Health, and in collaboration between Newcastle and Oxford, I was supervised by Dr Ghada Alsaleh and Dr Sarah Rice. During my MRes project, I investigated the role of autophagy in osteoarthritis, exploring the underlying age-related alterations leading to the disease development. Currently, my DPhil project delves into the molecular and mechanistic age-related changes that deteriorate the joints and lead to musculoskeletal diseases. Overall, my research aims to identify the underlying biological changes that develop with advanced age and predispose older adults to develop musculoskeletal disease.
