For anybody thinking about jumping onto the scheme I would say do it! - Katie Chegwin
Katie joined NDORMS in October 2015 as its first apprentice, and following on there are now further apprentices within the department working with different groups and teams. Working within the Oxford Clinical Trials Research Unit (OCTRU) and now also in the Centre for Statistics in Medicine (CSM), Katie has been undertaking training in clinical trials whilst also undertaking her NVQ 3 and now NVQ 4 in Business Administration.
Katie said on receiving the award: “I could not feel happier to have been awarded with the title of Oxfordshire’s Higher Apprentice of the Year and Higher Apprentice of the Year. From being shortlisted for the award and having an interview with Nielsen to the evening at Blenheim Palace, both of which were fantastic experiences which I will never forget!
Since starting my apprenticeship, I could not have imagined all of the personal and professional growth that I would experience. I have turned my weaknesses into strengths which subsequently has enabled my confidence to shine through.
I am very grateful for everyone’s support and I would like to say a huge thank you to my employers for giving me this opportunity as well as my family and friends who have been so supportive. I believe the awards are a true reflection of how great my apprenticeship has been and for anybody thinking about jumping onto the scheme I would say do it!"
Emma Haines, Katie's supervisor at OCTRU says: "I am so pleased that Katie has won this award, she is incredibly focused, committed and motivated to achieve her level 4 diploma. She has exceeded requirements at every opportunity and her friendly and helpful personality has made it a pleasure to support her in her apprenticeship. Katie is a highly valued member of our team and has been a great example of how effective apprenticeships can be for both employer and learner."
