Professor Cooper, who is Professor of Musculoskeletal Sciences at Oxford and Director of the Medical Research Council Lifecourse Epidemiology Unit at the University of Southampton, will take up the position immediately and support the Lord-Lieutenant in carrying out his functions as HM The Queen’s representative in the county.
Awarded an OBE in January 2015 for services to medical research, Professor Cooper will continue his role at both Oxford and Southampton, leading internationally competitive research in the epidemiology of musculoskeletal disorders, most notably osteoporosis.
Professor Cooper will support the Lord-Lieutenant in carrying out his functions as HM The Queen’s representative in the county of Hampshire. The duties of the Lord-Lieutenant include, among others, arrangement of Royal visits to the county, liaison with local units of the Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force, and presentations of awards on behalf of HM The Queen.
