This is the fifth in a series of lunchtime seminars organised by the Oxford BRC Statistics Hub. Each seminar is 20 minutes long followed by 10 minutes of Q&A, and will be held via Microsoft Teams. Sample sizes for clinical trials - an overview

An overview into how the number of participants required for clinical trials is determined to ensure reliable and ethical research. Key concepts such as statistical power, effect size, variability and practical considerations will be explored, as well as understanding the impact of different clinical trial designs on total sample size. Different approaches to sample size calculation will also be included, with brief introductions to adaptive designs and Bayesian considerations.
