Royal Statistical Society - oxford local chapter

The Oxford local chapter of the Royal Statistical Society, hosted by the University of Oxford, brings together anyone with an interest in statistics in Oxfordshire and the surrounding areas. We organise an annual programme of free events and lectures on statistical topics.

Speaker: Denise Lievesley

Professor Denise Lievesley is Principal of Green Templeton College at the University of Oxford. A social statistician, she has served as President of the Royal Statistical Society (1999-2001), the International Statistical Institute (2007-2009), and the International Association for Official Statistics (1995-1997).

She was Chief Executive of the English Health and Social Care Information Centre, now called NHS Digital; Director of Statistics at UNESCO, where she founded the Institute for Statistics; and Director (1991-1997) of the UK Data Archive. While Director of the Data Archive, she was also Professor of Research Methods at the University of Essex. She has served as a United Nations Special Adviser on Statistics, stationed in Addis Ababa.

Prof Lievesley is a Fellow of University College London and the Academy of Social Sciences, and a member of the Executive Committee of the Institute of Fiscal Studies and the steering committee of the Council of European Social Science Data Archives. Her research interests relate broadly to the quality and trust in official data, and the use of data for research purposes.

Prof Lievesley was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the Queen's Birthday Honours in June 2014 for services to social science.
