CI of the CRAFFT and SCIENCE trials, Daniel Perry, tells us about the team's recent work with CBBC's Operation Ouch!
"Involving individuals in decisions about their treatment is somewhat of an art - requiring information to be delivered to them in a way that is engaging, appropriate and thorough. This is made more difficult when introducing uncertainty, and offering the opportunities to participate in a randomised trial. This is therefore especially difficult when then patient is a child, the disease is an injury, and the treatment is whether or not to have an operation.
The team for the children’s trauma studies CRAFFT and SCIENCE have enlisted some help in communicating the uncertainty - in the form of TV stars from CBBC's Operation Ouch, twins Dr Xand & Dr Chris van Tulleken. Their simple explanation of these trials makes is accessible to everyone - and is a pleasure to watch."
