Waheed is a sabbatical medical student studying the genetics of common elastic tissue disorders (such as varicose veins, herniae, haemorrhoids, abdominal aortic aneurysms, and pelvic floor abnormalities) via large systematic association studies. This research constitutes a uniquely interesting area of study, with wide implications for patients across all the major surgical specialities. This work is under the supervision of Professor Dominic Furniss, Professor Krina Zondervan and Mr Akira Wiberg. The team is based at the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal SciencesNuffield Department of Women's and Reproductive Health and the Wellcome Centre for Human Genetics.
